ABOUT ME
My name is Melanie Angarone and I am an Art Education student at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. I am the current president of the Art Education Organization here on campus. I have spent the past four summers as a camp counselor in my hometown of Wilmette, IL and will move onto directing camp next summer. This work has really allowed me to explore my love of teaching and communicating with people of all ages. At school, I have been involved with the Illini Mentor Program, where I traveled to Prairie Elementary in Urbana to tutor a third grade student named Katelyn; I spent two years as her mentor. This amazing experience also solidified my desire to become a teacher. While I greatly enjoy spending time with young students, my other passion is art. I love to draw with graphite and have experimented with woodworking, felting, painting, and many other mediums in the past. Through my work, I enjoy delving into the themes of love, emotion, and the human experience. Now in my junior year at U of I, I look forward to expanding my portfolio and continuing my studies in education.
